Interesting discussion Teddy. When people use the word ‘comedy’ to describe literature, performance, movies etc there seems to be a broad spectrum of reaction that leaps to the idea that one is trivialising a subject. This is problematic for me as all serious comedy is tarred with the same brush as the ‘jumper slagging’ technique you use to fill time. From that point of view I disagree with Anais Nin or that other Kant (poor gag, sorry). Describing a work as comedy more often than not invites a less serious response because of this idea, despite the fact so much of it is no laughing matter.

I remember Gary Little telling me that he’d never been heckled so you may have a point! I do project a vulnerability, but I think it’s more of an honest thing. It’d be difficult for me to swagger about onstage while knowing that in a social event I’d want to hide in a corner. However funny I might be, I will never be as loud, brash, and confident as the unfunniest Australian backpacker in a room.

leave biscuits out in her bowl all the time, and don’t shut any doors (cats are strange creatures and don’t like their territory closed off! ) we have 2 cats and one used to do exactly what yours is doing. The solution, cat biscuits, he wanted us to get up and feed him! Leaving something out all the time that she can nibble on should make a difference and leaving the doors open means that she isn’t restrained and means she has access to litter tray and food during those precious hours between 5 and 7 am. Good luck x

Teddy, this is getting confusing. I’ve figured out which expletive f*** is and am 50% sure on what c*** is (since you’re quoting Mr Gordon, your guess is as good as mine.

But what is ***** refering to? ***** as in: “It goes on to have Mr Gordon offer his “tip” to Allan Miller (Edinburgh Evening News *****) on how he can become a “half-decent” performer.”

Based on the content of Gordon’s reply I can only assume it should read “Edinburgh Evening News Twats”.
